On Paradise
The exhibition On Paradise explores one of the most powerful concepts in cultural history, asking where the idea of paradise has led us over the centuries. At Villa Schöningen, the exhibition takes visitors on a journey through the interior spaces and garden, where historical visual traditions meet contemporary artistic perspectives.
Rather than presenting paradise as a lost place, the exhibition portrays it as a projection shaped by longings, ideals, and forms of control. Through depictions of nature, the human body and social order, we see how this concept continues to influence the present day.
Among the trees
Passage Art presents an exhibition of contemporary painting and sculpture exploring botanical and forest-related motifs at Villa Schöningen. Set within the historic park landscape of Potsdam, a multifaceted dialogue unfolds between art, nature and space.
Rather than viewing the forest and nature merely as motifs, the exhibition considers them as cultural constructs and surfaces for projection. The interplay of contemporary works and selected pieces from the Döpfner Collection brings diverse artistic approaches into relation with one another. By inviting external curators, Passage Art opens up a new perspective that expands the Villa’s programme and, in line with its mission statement, reveals new interpretations of nature, landscape and their visual traditions.
