Traces of the Body
The exhibition Traces of the Body presents the first solo exhibition in Germany of US-American artist Kylie Manning. Her paintings shift between figuration and abstraction. Bodies emerge as traces, dissolving into layered fields of color and light.
At Villa Schöningen, these works enter into dialogue with historical positions such as Jan Brueghel II, Marina Abramović or Anselm Kiefer. Together, they open new perspectives on visibility, memory, and the representation of the human body.
On Paradise
Paradise is one of the most powerful concepts in our culture, representing a longing, an ideal or a promise of abundance. However, it is not an innocent place; rather, it is a projection shaped by notions of nature, the body, and order, as well as questions of power and control. At the heart of the exhibition is the idea of paradise as a concept that has evolved over history, and the paths that have been taken by societies, images, and landscapes to this day.
At Villa Schöningen, the exhibition takes visitors on a journey through interior spaces and the garden. Historical pictorial traditions engage in dialogue with contemporary artistic perspectives, revealing paradise to be a cultural construct.
